Lycamobile Just Changed Its Plans: $5 International Plan and Canada Roaming — What Travelers Should Know
A big first-month price cut on the international plan, plus free Canada roaming data: what changed, and what to check before you buy.
2026-11-05
The short version: on November 2, 2026, Lycamobile cut its $23 Unlimited International plan to $5 for the first 30 days. Add the Canada roaming upgrade from October, and Lycamobile is now at its best value for travelers who call home often and might also cross into Canada. The catch: $5 is a first-month promo price — renewal goes back to the regular rate, so confirm the current price at purchase time.
1. The $5 plan: what changed
- The cut: the $23 Unlimited International plan now costs $5 for the first 30 days — roughly 78% off — for the first month only.
- What's included: 8GB of high-speed data, hotspot, unlimited US talk and text, plus unlimited international calls and texts to about 100 countries, and a $5 bonus international roaming credit.
- Best for: short US trips with frequent calls home — one month of travel is mostly covered by a single plan, with data and international minutes included.
- Watch out: unlimited calling is subject to a fair-usage policy; check the carrier's terms when you order. The promo price applies to the first month only, then renews at the regular price.
2. Canada roaming: no need for a local SIM in Canada
- The new benefit: since October 16, 2026, the Unlimited Plus and Unlimited Pro plans include Canada roaming — 5GB of roaming data in Canada, plus calls and texts to Canada, with no need to buy a travel eSIM or a Canadian SIM.
- The key condition: the plan must be activated in the US first. Once in Canada, turn on data roaming and it works; the 5GB roaming allowance shares the plan's 30-day validity.
- Best for: travelers moving between the US and Canada, or a few days' drive across the border — 5GB is usually enough for a short trip, though heavy users should check what happens after it runs out.
- Not included: the basic $23 plan does not carry this Canada roaming benefit. For Canada trips, pick the Plus or Pro tier, and confirm the current tier and price at purchase time.
3. How to choose as a US traveler
- US only, frequent international calls: the $5 first-month Unlimited International plan is the best value — 8GB of data plus international minutes in one package.
- Also visiting Canada: pick the Plus or Pro tier with Canada roaming, so one SIM covers both countries and you skip buying another card on arrival.
- Staying longer than a month: budget the promo price for month one and the regular price after that — don't treat $5 as the ongoing monthly cost.
- Heavy data use: estimate your monthly usage before choosing a tier. 8GB disappears fast with video streaming and hotspot use, so ask in advance whether you get throttled or cut off after the allowance.
4. Three things to confirm before you buy
- Is the promo still running? $5 is a limited-time first-month price and can end at any time — confirm the current price and the renewal price before ordering.
- Are your countries covered? unlimited international calling covers about 100 countries. Tell the seller the countries you call most and confirm they are on the list.
- Where to activate: the Canada roaming benefit requires activation in the US first. For eSIM, confirm your phone supports eSIM and the carrier has been activated before you travel.
