How to Check Your US SIM Balance, Remaining Data, and Expiry Date
The worst surprise is not running out of data — it is not knowing how much you have left, or when the plan ends. Check three numbers and both surprises disappear.

The short version: trust the carrier's own numbers first — a dial code or the carrier's official app. Your phone's built-in data counter is only a rough guide, because it runs on its own reset cycle, which may not match your plan cycle. Codes differ by carrier and plan, so confirm the right method when you buy the card.
1. Fastest Method: Dial Codes
No internet or login needed — enter the code in your dialer and hit call, and the result pops up on screen or arrives by text. Common codes for major carriers are below; confirm at purchase time, since codes vary by plan:
- T-Mobile Prepaid: dial #999# for your account balance, #BAL# (#225#) for your service cycle, and #WEB# (#932#) for data used, your plan, and its expiration date.
- AT&T Prepaid: dial *777# and the carrier texts back your account and data balances and other plan details.
- Lycamobile US: *131# is the commonly used code for balance and remaining data; the My Lyca app or your online account shows the same information. If a code returns nothing, switch to the app rather than trying codes meant for other countries.
- Other brands (Utel, Surf USA Mobile, MobileX, and others): the check method varies — some use an app, some use text. Ask the seller for the exact method when you buy, and save a screenshot of it.
2. Fullest Method: The Carrier App or Online Account
- The app usually shows everything at once: balance, data used, data remaining, the next renewal date, and the plan name. It is the best place to double-check before a renewal.
- Registration needs a verification code sent to the number itself, so set the account up right after activation, while the line is working — not after it has already been suspended for non-payment.
- Dual-SIM users, take care: make sure the call and data lines are set to your US SIM before checking, or you may read the other SIM's numbers by mistake.
3. Your Phone's Own Counter: A Guide, Not the Bill
- iPhone: Settings > Cellular, scroll down to the “Current Period” figure — but that period only resets when you reset it manually, so it is not your plan cycle. The carrier's date is the one that counts.
- Android: Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > data usage (menu names vary by brand). Again, use it for the trend, not as a match for the carrier's numbers.
- Carrier figures can lag too: heavy usage may take a while to post, so when you are nearly out, leave a little headroom instead of running the last megabyte to zero.
4. After You Check, Do Three Quick Things
- Save the expiry date: put it in your phone's calendar with a reminder a day early, so a missed renewal never turns into a suspended line or a recycled number.
- If data is nearly gone: find out first whether you will be throttled or cut off, then choose between a data add-on, an early renewal, or a bigger plan.
- If a check returns nothing: restart the phone, confirm you have signal, and confirm you are dialing from the US line. If it still fails, use the app, or ask the seller to verify — do not randomly change APN or plan settings.
